Hatchbacks have been the first car of many car buyers for years and continue to buck the trend. Their practicality and versatility, largely due to their smaller size, are the reasons for their success. The most popular used hatchback cars in Delhi NCR was the Swift but it has lost a small piece of the pie to competitors including the Hyundai i10 and Wagon R.
Petrol models dominated sales for all top five cars. The most preferred transmission was the manual, which averaged more than 95%.

The Maruti Swift is the best selling hatchback in the country and a top-selling used car in Delhi NCR. It commanded 13% of the second hand hatchback market share in 2024. This is a drop of 2% from its 2023 share. The Swift’s sporty design, intuitive infotainment and comfortable cabin, as well as good safety features including ABS and airbags make it a preferred choice.
The petrol variants of used Swift in Delhi NCR sold the most (66.2%). The share of petrol in 2023 was 54.5%. The manual transmission sold the most with 97% sales. The best selling Swift variants were the mid-level VXI petrol and VDI diesel.

The second hand Hyundai i10 in Delhi NCR was the next most popular hatchback with a share of over 11% in the used car market for hatchbacks. The i10 has become a popular choice for many, especially those looking for a fuel-efficient city car on a budget. It has a spacious cabin and an efficient engine.
All the Hyundai i10 car variants sold were petrol. The most sold transmission option was the manual with a strong 96.1%. The best selling variants were the Magna and the Sportz. This shows that Delhi used car buyers seek value for money and better fuel economy as higher priority.

One of the most popular used hatchbacks for individuals as well as families is the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0 with a share of 8%. It is a spacious compact car which is highly versatile and fuel-efficient. There are a number of used Maruti Wagon R 1.0 cars in Delhi NCR with petrol and CNG available.
From the CARS24 numbers, we see that 59.4% of sales of the Wagon R 1.0 were petrol but a considerable 40.6% were CNG used cars. 98.1% buyers opted for the manual transmission. The top selling variants were the VXi and LXI.

The first car for crores of Indians, the Maruti Suzuki Alto continues to be a strong seller in the used hatchback market with a share of 4.9% in Delhi NCR. This is thanks in no small part to a large selection of affordable used Maruti Alto cars in Delhi NCR available in different styles and with a choice of petrol engines and CNG options.
Petrol engines made up 93% of used Alto sales with the rest being CNG, as depicted by internal data from CARS24. All of the used Alto cars were manual transmission versions. The LXI followed by the VXI were the highest selling Alto variants.

The hatchback space has seen the Hyundai Grand i10 shine. The market for used Hyundai Grand i10 cars in Delhi NCR is huge due to its many choices, including petrol and diesel options. Although its share of the Delhi used hatchback market was 4.8%, the Grand i10 is a stylish and well-equipped proposition.
When it comes to fuel type, a majority (64%) used Grand i10 cars sold were petrol but a considerable 36% were diesel. The highest selling transmission was the manual (94%) but 6% chose automatic transmission variants, a higher number compared to the previous year. The Sportz and Magna were the top selling variants.
Conclusion
Delhi NCR’s used hatchback car market remained as strong as it was in 2023 with over 50% share of the used car market. The low cost of ownership, comfort and practicality make hatchbacks an excellent used car choice for city users. The Maruti Suzuki Swift continues to lead the hatchback sales race with the Hyundai i10 still in second place, with the Wagon R 1.0 in third.
Although petrol was the preferred fuel type for all five, a third of the buyers of used Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 chose diesel. Manual transmissions dominated used car buyer preferences in 2024 but there was an increase in the share of automatic used hatchbacks compared to 2023.
