According to our latest used car sales report, automatic transmissions accounted for 10.7% of all used car sales in the city. While used manual cars in Pune continue to dominate, a gradual but noticeable shift towards automatics is underway.

Maruti Suzuki Swift | 9% Used Hatchback Share in Ahmedabad

The Maruti Suzuki Swift remains the undisputed leader in Ahmedabad’s used hatchback market, securing a 9% share.  

A closer look at fuel preferences shows that 40.5% of used Swift cars in Ahmedabad were sold in the diesel variant. While 59.2% were used petrol Swift models—a testament to the lasting popularity of the now-discontinued Fiat-sourced DDiS diesel engine. Transmission-wise, 95.1% of used Swifts sold in Ahmedabad had a manual gearbox, reinforcing its reputation as a driver’s car.

Beyond Ahmedabad, used Maruti Swift remain a national bestseller, holding an 11% share of India’s used hatchback market. Its strong resale value, coupled with Maruti’s widespread service network, ensures it remains a top pick for used car buyers.

Hyundai Grand i10 | 6.9% Used Hatchback Share in Ahmedabad

Securing the second spot, the Hyundai Grand i10 holds a 6.9% share of Ahmedabad’s used hatchback sales.  Petrol variants dominated, with 70.9% of all used Grand i10 sales running on petrol, while 29.1% featured Diesel. The transmission preference leaned towards manuals, with 91.1% of Grand i10 buyers choosing the 5-speed MT over the 4-speed automatic.

Interestingly, the Grand i10 also ranked among the overall top five best-selling used cars in Ahmedabad with a 4% market share, further underscoring its appeal beyond just the hatchback segment.

Hyundai i10 | 6.6% Used Hatchback Share in Ahmedabad

Closely following the Grand i10, the Hyundai i10 secured a 6.6% market share in Ahmedabad’s used hatchback segment. Its compact size paired with affordable ownership costs make it a great fit for city dwellers.

The Hyundai i10 came exclusively with a petrol engine. But when it came to transmission choices, 96.6% of buyers preferred a manual gearbox, while automatics accounted for just 3.4% of sales.

Beyond Ahmedabad, the i10 has also been a strong performer nationally, securing 8% of India’s total used hatchback sales, making it the second best-selling pre-owned hatchback in the country in 2024.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0 | 5.8% Used Hatchback Share in Ahmedabad

Known for its practicality, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0 remains a favorite in Ahmedabad’s used car market, taking a 5.8% share. Buyers appreciate its spacious interior, easy ingress and egress, and frugal running costs.

Unlike other hatchbacks in the top selling list, the Wagon R sees a double digit demand (15%) for CNG variants, while petrol remains dominant at 85%. Transmission choices align with the city’s trend, with 94% of buyers preferring manual gearboxes, while 6% opted for automatics.

The Wagon R also ranks as the fourth best-selling used car in Ahmedabad, capturing a 3% market share. Aligning with its strong citywide demand, it also holds a 6% share nationally in India’s used hatchback market.

Affordable, fuel-efficient, and easy to maintain, the Maruti Suzuki Alto continues to be a go-to option in Ahmedabad, holding a 6% share of the used hatchback market. Petrol variants led the charge, making up 91% of Alto sales, while CNG versions accounted for 9%. Unlike other models on this list, the pre owned Alto models in Ahmedabad were sold only with a manual transmission, cementing its reputation as a simple, reliable city car.

On a national scale, the Alto remains amongst the best-sellers, contributing 5% to India’s used hatchback market.
